Fell Head is one of several peaks in the Howgill Fells that reach a height of over 2,000ft. It is also the most westerly height over 2,000ft in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Being just over a mile from the M6, it is also the nearest 2,000ft hill to a motorway in England.
Aptly named, Fell Head is the highest point in a complex series of ridges and subsidiary summits in the northwestern area of the Howgills. The saddle of Windscarth Wyke joins Fell Head to the neighbouring Bush Howe.
On a fine day, the panorama of the Lake District fells provides the focal point of the view along with the valley of the River Lune and a view down Long Rigg Beck.
